A God who fights for His people.
The second cup in the Seder is called the cup of Plagues. God says in Exodus 12:12 that He will "bring judgment on the gods of Egypt." The gods in Egypt may have been a bit more obvious to identify while the gods that may have our attention may bit a bit more subtle: our work, our phones, our technology. This was a question of devotion.
What are the things in your life pulling for your attention?
These were not only acts to build the faith of the Israelites, but also the Egyptians. It says in Exodus 7:5, "The Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them." Through this specific revelation, God made Himself known and revealed His intention to fight on behalf of His people.
Where have you seen God display His work in your life showing you that He fights for you?
After the 10th plague had been delivered, the Israelites made their way out, only to get to the brick wall of the Red Sea. They said they might as well have stayed slaves than to die in the wilderness. Then Moses said in Exodus 14, "Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent."
What have been the times in your life when you reached a dead end, a brick wall, and needed God to fight the battle? How can you invite God to be with you in the battles you're currently engaged in?
